If you are finding "presents" by the door,  your  dog needs a way to let you know they need to go.

Whenever you take them out to go, ring the bell first and ask in an excited, happy voice, "Outside?"  Then take them out to do their thing.  Ring the bell or the chimes each time you go outside.

Paps are curious and will investigate the chime on their own.  If they ring it, even accidentally, give praise and ask excitedly, "Outside?"

They will quickly learn that ringing the bell or chimes gets them outside.

To make fast, easy belly bands for boys just purchase a package of premie diapers/burp cloths.

Fold them in thirds lengthwise.  

You may place a self stick kotex pad or lay an old tube sock on the diaper to absorb any urine if you want to preserve the belly band.

Place the belly band around the dog’s waist close to his hind legs making sure that the tip of his penis is covered.  Fasten carefully with a large safety pin.

Belly bands can be as simple as just using a tube sock around their middle, or as fancy as you’d like to make them.

If you sew, you can make a belly band out of any material.  Try holiday prints or doggie designs for fun!  A matching bandana makes a color coordinated outfit. 

Once you fold the diaper or decorative cloth into thirds, you can stitch down the center and edges.  Velcro strips can be sewn at the end to speed the on/off process.

I can't stress enough that males make excellent pets as well.  They are just as smart and as loving as females, if not more so.

Early neutering goes a long way in preventing the desire to mark.  Vigilant housetraining aided by the bellyband as a reminder can help you feel totally comfortable with a male pup in your home.  While bellybands will not housetrain your dog for you, they serve as a reminder for your dog and a safety net to let you have peace of mind while visiting friends or vacationing in hotels.
